Everywhere that water exists, microorganisms are sure to follow. Microorganisms can be a significant nuisance in the upstream Oil & Gas sector.  Well drilling, completion, stimulation and water flood operations can introduce microbes into a producing formation and cause plugging.  Microbes found in the near well bore of producing wells can impede inflow, corrode infrastructure and sour the formation.  At the surface, production problems associated with microbial infection include corrosion and fouling of wellheads, pipelines, separators and storage tanks.

There are a number of monitoring methods widely in use, ranging from traditional culturing techniques, through to DNA targeting and rapid molecular reaction methods. All of the methods have their own merits and limitations, which is why a combination of monitoring tools are normally applied in the quantification of bio burden and resulting mitigation programs.

PMAC provide a range of side-stream systems that are small enough to be portable, yet robust enough for the rigors of oilfield environments. These can be simple “stand-alone” systems or included in a multi-functional side-stream. Whether evaluation of corrosion, dissolved oxygen, scale or wax; to chemical inhibitor evaluation and optimisation, PMAC have a solution for a broad range of production chemistry challenges.

PMAC provide a comprehensive range of purpose built equipment and instrumentation for field-testing and measurement of oilfield chemistry issues. Having the ability to pre-empt or evaluate ever changing production scenarios is important in supporting a quality flow assurance system within any Integrity Management Programme.

PMAC work with it's clients to ensure their biological monitoring and control programs are as efficient as they can be, with the aim of eliminating sub-standard and low value monitoring/mitigation methods which may be in use. Our multi discipline Field Teams can collect and preserve samples (sessile swabs, planktonic, pig trash etc.) for on-pass to UKAS accredited laboratories for analysis.

New molecular reaction methods currently being introduced will also allow our teams to determine total bio-burden almost instantaneously, with preliminary results available before their departure from site. PMAC can also offer it’s clients the very latest MiSeq / HiSeq DNA sequencing, which offers unparalleled depth in microbial species identification.

PMAC can also mobilise portable, multi-function Bio side stream equipment, which are cable of assessing the effectiveness of multiple chemical biocides and dose rates simultaneously.
